An affidavit attesting that "the Negro Boy Bob, sent to the coast to work on the Fortifications, belonging to Wm. Edgefield District, SC, 29 November 1864. Talbert at $3000." In response, Jennings forwards the letter, noting that Prescott is "in the Army" and seeking compensation. Captain Prescott writes with enclosed papers to "establish the fact that I did send my boy Bob to the Coast that he did die there of disease contracted whilst there and the appraise value has been fixed by F.W. ![]() 1 page, 8vo, 5 3/4 x 8 3/4 in., both letters on the same sheet, toned, some brown spotting, brittle edges.
